Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver casters gained widespread popularity in Britain during the early eighteenth century, coinciding with the reign of King George I. Silversmiths, including skilled French Huguenot refugees, produced these vessels to dispense ground pepper, sugar, or exotic spices at formal dining tables.

These casters were constructed from sterling silver using hand-hammering and raising techniques. The tops were intricately pierced by hand to allow controlled sifting, often fitted to the molded baluster body with a bayonet or push-fit joint.

Authentic pieces feature British hallmark conventions of the period, including the makers mark, purity mark, city mark, and date letter. Additionally, period casters display characteristic hand-piercing, hand-cut bayonet fittings, and appropriate historic wear to the base.

An antique silver caster can be displayed on a dining sideboard, polished tray, or mantelpiece. Pairing silver hollowware alongside natural wood tones creates an understated balance of historic textures and modern elegance.

Maintain antique silver by dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and using specialized, non-abrasive silver polish sparingly. Avoid harsh chemical dips or dishwasher cleaning, and store the item in anti-tarnish cloth bags when not on display.
