Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Louis XV style, emerging in 18th-century France during the Rococo period, is characterised by asymmetry, curved lines, and elaborate floral motifs. It moved away from the heavy geometry of the previous era in favour of lighter, more organic forms.

These pieces typically utilise a carcase of oak or pine veneered with various exotic and domestic hardwoods, such as walnut, rosewood, and kingwood. Artisans hand-cut thin veneer sheets to create pictorial patterns before applying them with animal glues.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-beaten or cast bronze or brass mounts, and natural age-related shrinkage in the timber and adhesives. Examination under magnification often reveals slight irregularities characteristic of handcraftsmanship rather than modern machinery.

Pairing this ornate piece with minimalist contemporary surroundings allows the intricate woodwork and marble top to stand out as a focal point. Keeping surrounding decor simple prevents visual clutter and highlights the craftsmanship of the furniture.

Maintain stable relative humidity and temperature levels to prevent the wood and delicate veneers from warping or cracking. Clean only with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the finish without sealing moisture in.
