Georgian Ovoid Bowl Plain Stem Firing Glass

Description

This is a Georgian, English, plain stem firing glass dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1760.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a thick, extruded plain stem that leads to a thick firing foot which measures 6.6 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter. The glass is 9 cm (3.6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

Lead glass weighing in at 150 g. (~ 5 oz.).
