Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical polishes or abrasive cleaners that strip away the historical patina, which is crucial for preserving the objects value.

They can be used as striking focal points on mantelpieces or sideboards, contrasting clean modern architectural lines with historical texture and metallic warmth.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit heavy construction, hand-finished chasing marks, natural age-related patina, and multi-component assembly held together by threaded rods or screws rather than modern welding.

These items were typically cast in bronze or brass, often utilizing techniques such as lost-wax casting or sand casting, followed by hand-chasing to refine intricate surface details.

The Napoleon III style, prominent during the Second French Empire, is characterised by an eclectic revival of historical periods, heavily incorporating classical motifs, ornate casting, and opulent ornamentation.
