Old Sheffield Plate is an early form of silver plating produced by fusing a layer of silver to a copper core, common in items manufactured between the mid-18th and mid-19th centuries before electroplating was invented.

Antique wine coasters typically feature a fused metal or sterling silver rim and body combined with a turned wooden base, frequently made from hardwoods such as mahogany or oak.

Authentic pieces often reveal a faint copper bleed along exposed edges or wear points where the thin silver layer has worn away through decades of polishing.

They can be utilised as functional dining table accessories for serving bottles or repurposed on a sideboard or coffee table to display small decorative objects.

They should be cleaned gently using a non-abrasive silver cream and a soft cloth, avoiding excessive rubbing on edges to preserve the underlying metal layers.
