A striking pair of Victorian bronze candlesticks modelled as standing Carolean cavalier figures, each depicted in mid-17th-century dress with plumed hat, cloak and knee-length breeches. The figures stand in contrapposto, holding tall torch-form candlesticks surmounted by square nozzles with drip pans.
Finely cast with good attention to detail, including expressive facial features, crisply modelled costume folds and weaponry at the waist. Each figure is raised on a circular stepped base. The bronzes display an attractive deep brown patination, with lighter highlights to the faces and legs adding depth and warmth.
A decorative and sculptural pair, reflecting the Victorian fascination with historical and romanticised Carolean subjects.
