Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of nineteenth-century Black Forest bronze candlesticks displays a dark brown finish and a Highland hunting lodge design vibe. Each candlestick takes the form of a climbing bear figure positioned on a tree trunk column above a root-design base. One candle holder is missing, while the other components show high detail throughout the cast metal surface. The visual composition includes detailed paws gripping the bark, textured fur texture on the animal figures, and gnarled root feet spreading outward across the surface. Measuring 14.6 cm tall with a 8.9 cm diameter, these ornamental items sit compactly on flat surfaces. They suit placement on a mantelpiece in a traditional interior setting. The decorative figures bring a distinct wildlife theme to a room, functioning as display pieces or conversation starters within a curated collection of metalwork.

FAQs

Originating in the Brienz region of Switzerland during the nineteenth century, Black Forest decorative items are renowned for depicting wildlife, particularly bears, carved from wood or cast in bronze.

While carved wood is most common, high-end Black Forest items were also cast in solid bronze or brass with hand-chased details and naturalistic patination.

Authentic pieces exhibit detailed casting with hand-chased fur and bark textures, natural surface patination, and substantial physical weight consistent with solid cast alloy.

Position them as focal accents on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining surface paired with neutral wax tapers to contrast with dark wood or stone backdrops.

Remove dust using a soft dry brush or cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that can strip the original patination.
