Technical Description
 
An early 18th century onion glass wine bottle dating to c1700-1710. A low shouldered form with tapered neck and double ring bladed collar.
 
Date & Origin
 
Low Countries, c1705.
 
Condition
 
The piece has a very thin annealing fault from manufacture in the neck, a few air bubbles and some minor grazing. There is also some internal residue as expected.

Height: 17cm Diameter: 14.4cm.
 
Historical Relevance
 
In the spring and summer of 1715 a series of riots occurred in England, protesting against the first Hanoverian king, George I and his new Whig government. The rioters often attacked Dissenting chapels (the Dissenters were allied to the Whigs) and tended to occur on symbolic days such as George I''s birthday on the 28th May and the anniversary of Charles II''s Restoration on the 29th May.
