The World is Made of Glass Ltd. has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The lustres are in excellent condition for their age.
The lustres are in the white over ruby colourway, the white outer layer of glass having been cut away to reveal the ruby glass beneath in a classic design. The lustres have everted, dentated upper rims measuring 15.8 cm (6.3 inches) in diameter. The tops of the lustre columns are decorated with ten Gothic panels. Each panel is outlined in gilt, as are the rims, with gilded scrollwork in between the panels. The long tapering stems are cut with five vertical panels outlined in gilt and ending in gilded knops. The knops sit above round feet cut through with six Gothic panels, the white glass on the tops of the feet embellished with gilded scrollwork. The feet measure 14.3 cm (5.7 inches) in diameter. The lustres are an impressive 30 cm (12 inches) in height.
The droppers are of triangular spear form, and are probably the originals. There are the normal chips out of some of the cut facets of the droppers and a number are chipped to the vertical edges and to the ends. There are no cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The gilding is rubbed in places particularly on the white upper surfaces of the feet. In all though they are in remarkably good condition for their age.
Each lustre weighs in at 1.9 kg. (~ 4 lb. 3 oz.).
