The Thistle pattern was originally created by the Saint-Louis glassworks in 1913 for the Nancy International Exhibition. Inspired by the Art Nouveau movement and the emblem of Lorraine, the design features delicate floral cut motifs combined with hand-applied gold gilding.

High-grade lead crystal is hand-blown and shaped by master glassmakers before undergoing acid etching and diamond-wheel cutting. Fine 24-carat gold paint is then meticulously hand-applied to the rims, stems, and bases before undergoing a second firing process to fuse the gold to the glass.

Authentic pieces produced after 1936 typically bear an etched Saint-Louis round acid stamp on the base. Pre-1936 pieces may retain paper labels or display precise wheel-cut details and distinct heavy crystal clarity characteristic of the manufacturer.

Gilded stemware adds warmth and historical texture to modern home bars and dining spaces. Displaying these items on open shelving, mirrored trays, or inside glass cabinet displays allows light to refract through the crystal cutwork.

Hand wash stemware individually in warm water using a mild liquid soap and a non-abrasive sponge. Avoid dishwashers and harsh detergents, as heat and friction cause gold leaf detailing to degrade over time.
