This pair of antique Japanese Imari decorative plates dates from 1900. Each circular ceramic porcelain dish is hand-painted in a rich palette of cobalt blue underglaze, iron red, white, green, and gold, featuring intricate motifs of blooming peony flowers, stylized floral panels, trees, birds, scrolls, and geometric lattice patterns along the wide borders. The glaze has a glossy finish. Each plate measures 4.5 cm high, 30.5 cm wide, and 30.5 cm deep. These decorative plates suit placement on a sideboard top within an English Country House interior setting. They can also be displayed on open shelving or a console table in a dining room or living space to add traditional pattern and colour to the room.

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region of Japan and was exported extensively to Europe during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries via the port of Imari, heavily influencing European ceramic production.
