FAQs

Art Deco cabinet design from the 1930s is defined by bold geometric shapes, clean lines, and symmetrical proportions. Furniture makers frequently utilised highly figured wood veneers, such as walnut or mahogany, arranged in striking geometric or book-matched patterns.

Pieces from this period predominantly featured timber frames overlaid with decorative wood veneers, including burr walnut, macassar ebony, and rosewood. Fittings and handles were commonly executed in brass, chrome, Bakelite, or cast metal alloys.

Authentic pieces generally display period-accurate construction techniques, such as hand-cut dovetail joints, solid wood substructures, and natural wear to original lacquer finishes. The interior shelving and hardware often show authentic age marks and patina.

A mid-sized Art Deco cabinet functions well as a focal piece in a hallway, dining space, or bedroom. The warm tone and geometric pattern of walnut pair effectively with neutral palettes, minimalist modern furniture, or jewel-toned upholstery.

Preserve walnut veneer by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and veneer fading.
