Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian sterling silver sugar basket is a vessel designed during the nineteenth century to hold sugar loaves or sugar cubes for tea and dining services. These baskets frequently feature a swing handle, navette shape, and pedestal foot, reflecting nineteenth-century British dining customs.

These baskets were crafted from hallmarked sterling silver consisting of 92.5 percent silver purity. Construction methods involved hand-hammering, fluting, repousse relief ornamentation, and hand-chased decorative bands with beaded edges.

Authentic pieces carry British hallmarks stamped into the silver, including the lion passant mark, town mark, date letter, and sovereign duty mark. The presence of hand-chased detail, authentic maker initials, and age-consistent surface wear also assist in verification.

A Victorian silver sugar basket can be displayed on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or dining table centre. It may be shown empty to display the carved repousse metalwork or used as a decorative container for small items.

Silverware should be cleaned with a dedicated silver polish and a non-abrasive cotton cloth to remove tarnish without harming intricate repousse motifs. Storing the item in dry conditions wrapped in acid-free tissue or anti-tarnish cloth prevents rapid oxidisation.
