Guilloche enamel is a decorative technique where a precise, intricate pattern is mechanically engraved into a metal surface, usually silver or gold, and then covered with a translucent layer of coloured enamel that allows the underlying pattern to show through.

Traditional dressing table jars from the early 20th century were commonly constructed from cut glass or crystal bases paired with sterling silver lids, frequently embellished with vitreous enamel or hand-carved details.

Authentic pieces generally feature clear hallmarks stamped on the silver rim or lid, indicating the makers mark, assay office, purity standard, and date letter, alongside the characteristic weight and clarity of period-cut glass.

These decorative containers can be displayed atop a minimalist dressing table, bathroom shelf, or wooden side cabinet to introduce a subtle touch of historical colour and metallic sheen to contemporary spaces.

Enamel pieces should be cleaned gently using a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust, avoiding harsh chemical dips, abrasive polishes, or prolonged immersion in water that could damage the delicate glass-based enamel.
