FAQs

Twentieth-century oak cupboards often draw inspiration from earlier vernacular and revivalist designs, featuring sturdy timber construction, panelled doors, and practical storage configurations suited to domestic interiors.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid oak or oak veneers over secondary timbers, utilising traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon frames, panelled doors, and wooden peg fixings.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, tool marks, joinery techniques, and hardware consistency. Genuine older pieces display natural patina, hand-cut joints, and age-appropriate wear rather than modern manufacturing uniformity.

An antique oak cupboard adds warmth and texture to contemporary spaces. It can serve as a grounding focal point in a minimalist dining room, hallway, or living area to contrast with clean architectural lines.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and major humidity fluctuations. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and occasionally apply a quality beeswax polish to nourish the wood and protect the finish.
