Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

An Edwardian silver and cut glass biscuit barrel is a covered container traditionally used to store and serve biscuits during afternoon tea, featuring a crystal or cut glass body fitted with sterling silver mounts and a hinged handle.

These barrels were crafted using heavy lead crystal or flint glass, often deeply cut with geometric patterns, combined with sterling silver for the rim, lid, collar, and swing handle.

Authentic pieces feature British hallmarking stamps on the silver components, typically including a makers mark, a standard mark indicating sterling silver purity, a town assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the early 20th century.

This piece can be displayed on a sideboard, open shelving, or a coffee table as a decorative focal point, or utilized functionally to hold small items while adding textural contrast through its reflective glass and silver surfaces.

Clean the glass using warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh abrasives, and polish the silver components periodically with a specialized, non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the finish without damaging the metal or glass.
