Late Victorian Glass & Bronze Pendant Light

19th century
Description

A fabulous Late Victorian pendant light, suspended by three bronze supports, each terminating in cast ram’s head masks with acanthus detailing. The frame retains its original patinated surface, showing natural wear and oxidation from age, while the bowl is formed of hand-cut glass with geometric decoration. The upper section is fitted with elegant scrolling arms terminating in stylised rosettes, centred by a finely turned suspension mount.

Originally designed for refined interiors of the late 19th century, this pendant would now make a striking feature light, equally at home above a dining table, in an entrance hall, or as a statement piece in a boutique or hospitality setting.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian pendant lights typically feature ornate cast metal frameworks, such as bronze or brass, paired with decorative cut or pressed glass shades and bowls designed to diffuse early electric or gas lighting.

These fixtures commonly combine heavy lead cut glass or etched crystal with solid cast bronze, brass, or iron fittings suspended via metal rods or linked chains.

Authentic period light fittings show natural age patina or oxidisation on metal elements, hand-cut glass geometric patterns, and original threaded or hooked structural joinery rather than modern uniform screws.

Positioning a Victorian glass pendant light in an entryway, hallway, or above a dining table introduces historical architecture and texture, creating a balanced focal point within contemporary or traditional spaces.

Clean the glass shade gently using warm water and mild dish soap on a lint-free cloth, and wipe the bronze frame with a dry cloth to prevent dust accumulation without stripping the aged patina.
