Vintage George I Style Sterling Silver Two Light Candelabra (1968)

1940 - 1960
For Sale by AC Silver
Description

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of vintage English sterling silver two light candelabra in the George I style; an addition to our collection of vintage candle holders.

These exceptional, fine and impressive vintage sterling silver taper candelabra have a classic 18th century English form.

Each impressive two light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms, which support two panelled capitals with plain circular dished drip pans.

These versatile vintage candelabra can be used as taper candlesticks once the arms (labra) are detached.

The knopped stems are surmounted swept octagonal spreading bases; the base of each exceptional taper candelabrum is not weighted.

Such examples in this size, utilised with taper candlesticks, are uncommon and highly desirable.

This small vintage silver candelabra makes a thoughtful gift for weddings, anniversaries or housewarmings. Its compact form brings timeless elegance to intimate dinners and adds refined character to a mantelpiece, dining table or sideboard.

Condition

These vintage silver candelabra are a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Each component has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base and part hallmarks to the sleeve of each labra are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of vintage silverware.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George I style silver features clean octagonal shapes, cast construction, simple knopped stems, and minimal surface ornamentation, reflecting the understated elegance of early 18th-century English silversmithing.

Authentic sterling silver candelabra contain 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability, constructed via casting or raising, with detachable branches fitted into central candle sockets.

Genuine pieces bear official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling quality, a makers mark, and a date letter stamped on both the main bases and removable branches.

Place a pair of silver candelabra on a contemporary dining table or sideboard to add structural verticality and reflective metallic contrast against dark wood or natural stone surfaces.

Wipe regularly with a soft cotton cloth, remove wax build-up using hot water without abrasive tools, and polish periodically with specialised silver polish to prevent oxidisation.
