Louis XVI style seating features classical Neoclassical symmetry, straight fluted legs, carved friezes with bead or egg-and-dart mouldings, and gilded or painted wood finishes.

These pieces were constructed using carved hardwood frames, coated with gesso and water-gilded or oil-gilded gold leaf, and fitted with webbed upholstery covered in silk or velvet textiles.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-carved joinery, hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, natural wear or oxidisation to the gilding revealing red or grey bole, and original upholstery construction techniques.
