The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from ornate Rococo curves to refined neoclassical symmetry, often featuring crisp borders and classical motifs.

These pieces are crafted from sterling silver and frequently finished with a layer of gold wash, known as silver gilt or vermeil, which protected the silver from the corrosive effects of salt.

Authentic pieces bear official British hallmark stamps, including the makers mark, standard mark, town mark indicating the assay office, and the date letter corresponding to the active year of production.

These small decorative items work well displayed on a dining table centre, mantelpiece, or within a glass-fronted cabinet to add metallic texture and historic character to contemporary spaces.

Silver gilt objects should be cleaned infrequently using a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes that can wear away the delicate gold layer, and stored in low-humidity environments.
