Nineteenth-century Dutch vanity items frequently combined high-purity silver mountings with intricately cut, flashed, or stained glass, reflecting skilled craftsmanship popular during the Victorian and late 19th-century periods.

These pieces typically utilised blown or moulded glass combined with sterling or continental silver caps and collars, often featuring hand-etched, flashed, or enamelled surface decoration.

Authenticity is usually determined by inspecting the silver components for period hallmarks, examining the glass for hand-finished traits, pontil marks, and natural age-related wear or patina on the metal.

An antique scent bottle can be displayed effectively on a mirrored tray, dressing table, or open shelving unit where light can pass through the coloured glass and highlight the metallic details.

Preservation involves keeping the glass clean using a soft, dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical cleaning agents on the silver mounts to protect the original patina and decorative enamel or flashing.
