This nineteenth-century Victorian maritime model of a Porter patent anchor forms part of the desk accessories category. Fabricated from brass, the object displays a warm polished metallic finish and stands 20.5 cm high. Key components include a movable pivoting fluke at the lower end, a curved shackle ring at the top crown, and a straight crossbar terminating in spherical ball ends perpendicular to the central shank. Positioned on an office desk within a gentleman's library setting, the piece functions as a decorative paperweight or study ornament. The compact scale allows placement on smaller writing surfaces, bookshelves, or mantelpieces, bringing a nautical aesthetic to traditional interiors.

Patented in the nineteenth century, the Porter anchor featured pivoting flukes designed to prevent the anchor chain from fouling and to improve holding power on the seabed.

Demonstration and salesman models from this era were primarily cast or machined in brass, bronze, or iron to accurately represent full-scale naval hardware.

Authentic period pieces exhibit precise metalcasting, functional hinged or threaded mechanisms, hand-finished detailing, and natural surface patination in hard-to-reach crevices.

Maritime brass items serve as structural accents on executive desks, bookshelves, or sideboards, contrasting well with dark timber, leather bound volumes, or neutral stone backgrounds.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip original surface patina, and apply a light microcrystalline wax coat if protection against oxidisation is required.
