Georgian glassware, produced during the reigns of the Georges from 1714 to 1830, is characterised by heavy lead metal content, deep pontil marks, rich hand-blown colours, and often elaborate hand-applied gilding or engraved decoration.

These pieces were typically mouth-blown using potash or lead glass formulations, shaped by hand in wooden or metal moulds, and finished with hand-cut or polished stoppers alongside hand-applied gold leaf enamelling.

Authenticity is determined by examining the base for a rough, indented pontil mark, checking for micro-abrasions and natural wear consistent with age, and observing the characteristic optical distortions and tiny air bubbles inherent to period glass-blowing methods.

Positioning historical glassware on a sideboard or within a dedicated bar cart adds rich colour and historical texture, contrasting effectively against modern minimalist furniture surfaces.

Wash these items strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing or dishwashers to protect fragile hand-applied gilding and aged glass surfaces.
