This Victorian table centrepiece candelabra originates from around 1890 in the grand Regency style, rendered in gleaming silver plate and clear glass. The design comprises five branches supporting diamond-moulded glass shades above a central fluted column, all rising from a stepped square base with stamped detailing. The silver-plated metalwork gleams with a polished finish, contrasting with the textured transparency of the glass shades and scrolling arms. Measuring 58.4 cm high, 47 cm wide and 47 cm deep, this substantial piece serves as a striking focal point. Placed on a dining table centre, it provides atmospheric illumination and decorative presence for formal gatherings, complementing traditional dining rooms and drawing room settings with its period elegance.

FAQs

A Cricklite candelabra is a late Victorian table lighting fixture patented by Samuel Clarke, designed with branches that hold glass cups and diamond-moulded domes to house specialized candles or fairy lights.

These fixtures feature silver-plated or brass bases paired with heavy press-moulded or cut clear glass shades, constructed to safely diffuse candlelight.

Authentic pieces frequently bear stamped marks for Samuel Clarke or patent details on the silver base, alongside trademarked branding moulded into the rim of the glass shades.

Place the piece as a central focal point on a formal dining table or atop a dark wood sideboard to add vertical structure and reflective light to contemporary dining rooms.

Clean the silver plate using a soft cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver foam, while washing glass components separately in warm water with mild detergent.
