Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, was heavily influenced by earlier periods such as Georgian, Sheraton, and Chippendale, often featuring lighter proportions and delicate marquetry inlays.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid secondary woods veneered with exotic timbers like walnut or mahogany, employing traditional dovetail joints, brass hinges, and fine stringing or banding for decorative detail.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction markers such as hand-cut dovetailing, period-appropriate brass hardware, secondary wood types consistent with the period, and natural ageing like oxidisation on the timber surfaces.

This piece can be integrated into contemporary spaces by mounting it in an underutilised corner to serve as functional storage or display space, contrasting its rich wooden tones against neutral modern walls.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
