A pristine 19th century overshot glass lidded bowl made by Boston & Sandwich in the USA c1880. It has a red glass snake as the handle to its original lid.
We are confident that this is a B&S example and not an English or Bohemian example. We have a number of examples at the moment all from the private collection of collection of John and Poppy Stallebrass. This gives us a valuable opportunity to compare the overshot glass ''styles'' used in England, Bohemia and the USA. This particular style is very distinctive in the collection and the exact style can be seen on an overshot champagne jug housed at the Brooklyn Museum.

Comments
Overshot or Ice glass as it was known in the Victorian era was made in many different locations, including England, Europe and the USA where Bos
...ton & Sandwich made some outstanding decorative and functional pieces. It is created by rolling the hot glass in tiny pieces of broken glass and then reheated to remove the sharp edges producing a very rustic look and feel.
One of a number of superb examples from the amazing glass collection of John and Poppy Stallebrass.
