Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Rococo Revival chandelier dates from the early 20th century and is made of gilded bronze and brass with a gold colour. The fixture consists of six curving S-scroll branches and leaf bobeche drip pans issuing from a tapering central column with a foliated base and acanthus leaf ornamentation. The piece displays a nice original faded patination, a fluted central stem, white candle sleeves, and clear light bulbs suspended by a decorative chain with a ceiling rose. The dimensions measure 53 cm high, 69 cm wide, and 69 cm deep, excluding the chain and rose. This hanging light fixture suits dining rooms, living areas, or grand hallways in homes today, providing both illumination and classic period decoration.

FAQs

A French gilt bronze chandelier is a period ceiling lighting fixture crafted from cast bronze that has been mercury-gilded or patinated, typically featuring ornate scrolling arms and decorative motifs influenced by Rococo or Neoclassical design.

These lighting fixtures were constructed using lost-wax or sand casting of bronze or brass, which was then chased by hand to add fine texture before applying a gilt finish to create a durable golden exterior.

Authentic pieces exhibit distinct weight due to solid cast metal construction, hand-chased surface detailing on leaf and scroll elements, and age-consistent oxidisation or wear on the gilded finish in low-touch areas.

Suspending a French gilded chandelier over a contemporary dining table or within a high-ceilinged hallway creates a striking focal point, balancing historical craftsmanship with clean modern architecture.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster, avoiding abrasive polishes, harsh chemical cleansers, or water, as these can strip or tarnish the delicate gilt layer.
