Edwardian dressing table jars were small containers used on vanity tables to hold items such as pins, powders, creams, or trinkets, typically featuring fitted sterling silver lids and decorative glass bodies.

These pieces traditionally combine blown or moulded glass bodiesoften coloured in shades like cobalt or pale bluewith hallmarked sterling silver mounts and occasionally hand-painted enamel or gilt detailing.

Authenticity is usually verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the silver mount, which indicate the assay office (such as Chester or Birmingham), the date letter for the Edwardian era, and the makers mark.

They can be displayed on a marble bathroom tray, styled on an open dressing table shelf, or used as functional storage for small items like rings and earrings while adding a splash of historic colour to a room.

Clean the glass with a mild soapy solution and dry thoroughly, while using a specialised non-abrasive silver cloth on the metal mount, taking care to avoid getting polish on any enamelled or painted surfaces.
