Georgian Small Plain Stem Wine Glass, Cup Bowl Engraved with "Tally Ho" & Fox

Description

This is a small Georgian, English, plain stem dram or small wine glass of fox-hunting significance dating from the middle of the 18th century.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved with a fox in flight and the legend "Tally Ho" above it. The bowl sits on an extruded thick plain stem and a conical, folded foot which measures 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter. The glass is 11.7 cm (4.7 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

English lead glass weighing in at 100 g. (~ 3 1/2 oz.).
