As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this super quality pair of Meiji Period ( 1868-1912) Shibayama decorated lacquer vases each formed as moon flasks. These charming vases are predominantly decorated with fine quality Shibayama style decoration upon a vibrant gold lacquer ground. The first aspect depicting Manchurian cranes in flight and at rest within a steam that meanders across each vase, whilst the reverse depicts a delightful scene of birds amidst trailing wisteria above sensational quality silk brocade decorated scrolling banner, that again runs across both vases, one of which also depicts a sinuous dragon upon an oval flaming cartouche. The Shibayama decoration carved from semi-precious hardstones and coral as well as multiple native shells.
