Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of 19th-century French candlesticks exemplifies the Louis XV style, manufactured from cast bronze with a bright gold finish. Each piece has a baluster stem featuring intricate foliate relief, rocaille scrollwork, and a crowned initial 'C', set upon a moulded, stepped base with shell-like motifs at the edges. Visible signs of age include subtle verdigris patination within the recessed mouldings and minor surface wear to the gilt finish. Measuring 24 cm high, these items stand at a practical size for placement on a mantelpiece or dining table. In a contemporary home, they suit placement in a living room, drawing room, or hallway as traditional decorative accents that catch the light.

FAQs

Louis XV style candlesticks feature Rococo design elements, including asymmetrical curves, floral reliefs, foliage motifs, and rocaille ornamentation popular during the mid-18th century in France.

These pieces were typically cast in solid bronze or brass, often finished with gilt mercury plating or detailed chased tooling to highlight intricate foliate and scroll patterns.

Authentic examples feature heavy cast construction, hand-chased relief details, threaded or pinned assembly, and natural patination or oxidisation within the recessed areas.

Displaying a pair on a contemporary fireplace mantel, dining table, or sideboard creates contrast against minimal backdrops and soft lighting.

Remove dust using a soft, dry cloth or bristle brush, and avoid abrasive chemical cleaners that could strip the original patina or gilded finish.
