Wedgwood lustre pottery, notably developed by Daisy Makeig-Jones in the early 20th century, is characterised by its iridescent metallic glazes and fantastical mythological motifs, drawing heavily on oriental and fairytale inspirations.

These pieces are crafted from fine earthenware or porcelain, painted with enamels, and treated with metallic oxide glazes fired in a kiln to produce a characteristic iridescent, mother-of-pearl sheen often accented with hand-gilt detailing.

Authenticity is verified by checking for specific printed or painted Portland vase marks, pattern numbers (often starting with Z), and the quality of the iridescent glaze and hand-applied gilding.

Place the vessel on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or enclosed cabinet where natural light can catch the iridescent glaze, pairing it with neutral backgrounds to highlight its metallic sheen.

Dust gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid using water, chemical cleaners, or abrasive materials that can damage the delicate lustre glaze and gold leaf.
