Lovely Old Sheffield Plate beer/cider Jug; of plain form with reeded bands to the body. The hinged lid is domed with a half-fluted pattern and has a fine shell thumbpiece.
We also have a later silver identical jug, slightly larger; it''s details can be found on Selling Antiques (SA1137318) or on our website, George James Antiques (28/2227,) both jugs bear the same crest and were purchased by us from the same family. It would seem that the Old Sheffield jug was loved so much that a later generation commissioned a silver copy to be made some 60 years later.
