Edwardian furniture, produced between 1901 and 1914, often drew inspiration from earlier periods such as Georgian and Sheraton, characterised by lighter proportions, refined craftsmanship, and extensive use of mahogany and satinwood.

Cabinetmakers during the Edwardian era predominantly utilised solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often paired with hand-blown cylinder glass for glazed doors and brass hardware for hinges and locks.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, period glass with minor imperfections or bubbles, and authentic brass locks.

Pairing dark wood period furniture with neutral, light-reflecting walls and contemporary seating creates a balanced aesthetic. Organising books by colour or mixing in modern ceramics softens the traditional look.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent fading and away from heat sources to avoid wood splitting. Apply traditional beeswax periodically to nourish the timber and preserve the polish.
