A rummer is a heavy, short-stemmed glass vessel that gained immense popularity in Britain during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, frequently used for serving ale, wine, and punch.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead glass or flint glass, shaped by free-blowing or mould-blowing, often featuring thick lower bowls and sturdy circular feet to withstand vigorous tavern use.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic pontil marks on the underside of the base, subtle surface imperfections or bubbles within the metal of the glass, and hand-polished facets or stems indicative of period craftsmanship.

They can be displayed open on a sideboard or used functionally for intimate dinner parties, adding a layer of historical texture and tactile weight to contemporary tablescapes.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive sponges to protect the delicate historical surface.
