The Georgian period spans the reigns of the four British monarchs named George from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the adoption of mahogany as a primary timber.

Cabinet makers predominantly used imported dense hardwoods such as mahogany, often accented with lighter wood stringing and marquetry veneers like satinwood, boxwood, and ebony.

Authentication involves examining construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, period-correct brass hardware, and traditional secondary woods like oak or pine inside the carcass.

An antique cabinet provides rich textural contrast and vertical interest in contemporary spaces, serving as a functional storage solution that grounds minimalist or neutral room schemes with historic character.

Maintain mahogany furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
