Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Rococo style table lamp from 1920 takes the form of a gold-painted metallic cherub holding a leafy tree branch that extends upward to form the central stem. The figure stands atop a sturdy black circular turned base with stepped round mouldings, while a conical fabric lampshade in matte black sits on top with a visible white interior lining. The gilded finish shows subtle tonal variations across the carved drapery and anatomical details of the child figure. Measuring 80 cm high by 22 cm wide, the piece provides striking vertical accent lighting. Positioned on a sideboard top, this lamp suits a French chateau interior scheme, bringing sculptural presence to a living room, hallway, or bedroom. The combination of metallic gold and deep black tones integrates smoothly into both traditional and transitional decorative settings.

FAQs

A gilt cherub table lamp is a decorative lighting fixture that features a sculpted cherub or putto figure as the central support column, finished with gold leaf or gilding.

These lamps are typically constructed from cast bronze, spelter, or carved wood, coated with gold leaf or gilt lacquer, and mounted onto stone, marble, or turned wooden plinths.

Authentic pieces often display natural wear or oxidisation to the gilded surface, seam lines from historical casting methods, original heavy bases, and period-appropriate electrical rewiring.

Place the lamp on a contemporary sideboard, console, or bedside table to create visual contrast between classical sculpture and clean modern lines.

Dust the surface gently with a soft dry cloth or feather duster, avoiding water, chemical cleaners, or abrasive polishes that could damage the delicate gilding.
