Early 20th Century Gothic Style Brass Chandelier 21"

1920 - 1940
Description

This chandelier would have originally been candle powered. It's been sympathetically converted to electric, with cardboard candle tubes. The main body of the chandelier is in brass. The top section features open fretwork and the lower section has a spun funnel. Note that this does have the odd dent here and there. The lower section is decorated with c-scrolls and is finished with a brass hoop. This piece has six small bayonet bulb holders. The height without the chain to the top is 59cm.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gothic Revival lighting originated in the mid-nineteenth century, drawing design inspiration from medieval architectural motifs such as pointed arches, quatrefoils, and decorative ecclesiastical metalwork.

These light fixtures were primarily constructed from solid cast or pierced brass, wrought iron, and bronze, often featuring lacquered finishes and chain supports.

Genuine period pieces display age-appropriate surface patination, heavy cast metal components, cast screw threads, and signs of hand-finished pierced detailing rather than modern uniform machine stampings.

Suspending a Gothic brass fixture in a high-ceilinged hallway, dining space, or library creates a defined focal point that contrasts structured historical design against modern neutral backgrounds.

Clean the brass surface with a soft, dry lint-free cloth to remove dust, avoiding abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners that can strip protective lacquers or historic patination.
