Vaseline glass is a type of glass made by adding uranium dioxide to the glass batch, producing a distinctive yellowish-green colour. It achieved peak popularity during the Victorian era, particularly between the 1840s and the early 20th century.

These pieces were crafted from silica, soda, and lime, coloured with trace amounts of uranium. Artisans typically used free-blowing, mould-blowing, or pressed glass techniques, often incorporating opalescent edging through heat manipulation.

Authentic pieces exhibit a characteristic translucent yellow-green hue that glows brightly under ultraviolet (UV) light due to the presence of uranium. Examination of pontil marks, wear patterns, and manufacturing seams helps determine the period.

Antique glass adds texture and historical contrast when displayed on open shelving, coffee tables, or window sills where natural light highlights its translucency. Mixing period glassware with contemporary minimalist decor creates a curated, sophisticated aesthetic.

Clean antique glass by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives or sudden temperature changes. Always line drying surfaces with a soft towel and handle with care to prevent chipping.
