The Georgian period spans the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, a time when English glassmaking flourished following the introduction of lead crystal by George Ravenscroft.

So-called mercury twists are formed using the air twist technique, where elongated bubbles within the glass stem are drawn out and twisted, creating the optical illusion of enclosed mercury threads.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface wear consistent with age, irregular bubble formations within the lead metal, and hand-engraved detailing rather than modern acid-etching.

Historic stemware adds a layer of curated refinement when displayed inside illuminated glazed cabinets, styled upon open shelving, or utilised as functional objects during formal dining occasions.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, dried immediately with a lint-free cloth, and kept away from sudden temperature fluctuations and direct sunlight.
