Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Swedish painted coffer is a wooden storage chest traditionally decorated with hand-painted folk art motifs, vernacular lettering, and dates. Often crafted as dowry or marriage gifts in rural Sweden during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these pieces functioned as central storage for household linens and textiles.

These chests were predominantly constructed from native softwood timber, such as pine or fir, using dovetail or nails for joining. The exterior surface was coated with mineral-pigment tempera or oil paint, reinforced with hand-forged wrought iron hinges, corner brackets, and lock plates.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age-appropriate wear, including natural paint distress around handles and edges, oxidisation on hand-forged ironwork, and historical inscriptions featuring dates or monograms. Original construction features include hand-sawn timber boards, irregular forged fittings, and original lock mechanisms.

A painted folk art coffer serves as a functional statement piece at the foot of a bed, as a low coffee table in a living room, or positioned along an entrance hallway. Its painted finish adds colour and historical texture to minimalist, modern rustic, or Scandinavian-inspired spaces.

To preserve original milk or oil paint finishes, clean gently using a dry microfibre cloth or light dusting brush without chemical detergents. Maintain stable humidity levels to prevent timber movement, avoid direct sunlight to limit paint fading, and apply clear microcrystalline wax sparingly to protect exposed wood areas.
