A rummer is a large, sturdy type of drinking glass that became popular in Britain during the late 18th and 19th centuries, traditionally used for serving ale, wine, or punch.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead glass, known for its heavy weight and refractive brilliance, and shaped using hand-blowing and optical or pillar-moulding techniques before being hand-cut and polished.

Authentic pieces exhibit features such as a polished pontil mark on the base, minor surface wear consistent with age, slight irregularities in the glass handle or bowl, and the characteristic greyish hue and density of early lead glass.

These items can be displayed open on shelves, incorporated into a bar cart arrangement, or used functionally for dining, adding historical texture and reflective elegance to contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive sponges, and stored safely away from direct sunlight.
