Comments on Engravings

Staked fruiting vine glasses are well documented and very rare. Barley wine glasses and also well documented and very rare. A combination of a staked fruiting vine with barley sheaf is so rare that we are unaware of another example and have certainly never had or seen one. Add this to the fact that it has a mercury twist stem and we would suggest that the glass is in fact unrecorded.

It could be argued that perhaps the polished grapes are in fact stylised polished hops (which could be true), however this would make the glass a staked ale glass with a mercury twist which is equally rare and to our knowledge, is also unrecorded.

Either way, a stunning and rare glass.
