FAQs

The Corinthian order originates from ancient Greek architecture, characterised by ornate acanthus leaves on the capital. In the 19th and 20th centuries, neoclassical revival movements adapted these architectural motifs into domestic items such as candlesticks and lamp bases.

Authentic period pieces typically combine cast brass, bronze, or copper with natural stone shafts such as marble, onyx, or alabaster. The metal components are often cast and hand-finished, whilst the stone elements are turned on a lathe and polished.

Authentication involves examining the weight, casting quality, and wiring components. Older pieces feature heavy-gauge cast brass with crisp detailing on the acanthus leaves, traditional slotted screws, and patination consistent with age, alongside period-appropriate bulb holders.

These lamps add verticality and architectural interest to a room. Place them on sideboards, desks, or console tables paired with a simple silk or linen shade to balance the ornate detailing with clean, modern textures.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes on both the metal and stone components, as these can strip protective lacquers or etch the marble surface.
