In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian glass mantle lustres emerged during the nineteenth century as decorative interior accessories designed to sit on fireplace mantels. Originating as candleholders or decorative vases, their primary functional purpose was to capture and reflect light in dim interiors using suspended glass or crystal prisms.

These pieces were commonly constructed from blown or pressed glass, frequently featuring opaque opalene or cased coloured glass layers. The suspended droplets were made from cut or moulded glass attached using small metal wire hooks, while surfaces were often embellished with hand-applied enamel detailing.

Authentic Victorian lustres typically exhibit period manufacturing characteristics, such as hand-formed wire pin attachments, slight asymmetry along crimped rims, and natural shelf wear on the base. Pontil marks beneath the foot and slight variations in hand-painted enamel motifs also indicate period production.

A Victorian glass lustre can be positioned on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or deep window sill where natural light passes through the glass prisms. Positioning the object against a neutral or contrasting backdrop emphasises its silhouette and suspended crystal droplets.

Glass lustres should be cleaned gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove surface dust. Suspended prisms should be carefully detached and washed individually in warm water with mild detergent, taking care not to expose hand-painted enamel areas to moisture or abrasive chemical cleaners.
