Pump-action cocktail mixers feature a vertical plunger mechanism connected to an internal paddle, allowing the user to mix drinks by pressing down on the top rather than shaking the vessel manually. They gained significant popularity during the Art Deco era of the 1920s and 1930s as cocktail culture flourished.

These mixers generally combine blown or moulded glass bodies with metal hardware, most commonly chrome-plated brass, nickel-plated brass, or occasionally silver plate. The internal stirring mechanism is usually fabricated from stamped metal.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor manufacturing imperfections in the glass, such as small air bubbles or striations, alongside age-related patina, light surface scratching, and wear on the metal components. Makers marks or patent numbers stamped onto the metal mountings are also key indicators of period production.

Such pieces function effectively as decorative objects on bar carts, sideboards, or open shelving, adding metallic accents and historical interest to entertaining spaces. They bridge functionality and display, complementing both mid-century modern and eclectic interior styles.

Items should be washed gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild dish soap, avoiding abrasive sponges that can scratch the glass or strip the metal plating. The metal components should be dried immediately to prevent oxidation, and harsh chemical cleaning agents must be avoided entirely.
