The Georgian era, spanning the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, elegant craftsmanship, and a transition from plain silver to highly ornate, chased, and embossed ornamentation towards the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

These pieces are crafted from sterling silver, typically featuring a standard fineness of 925 parts per thousand. The intricate fruit and bird motifs are achieved through techniques such as chasing, repousse, and hand engraving, often applied to earlier baseline spoons during the Victorian period.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped into the metal, which generally include a makers mark, a purity mark such as the lion passant for sterling silver, a city assay office mark, and a date letter indicating the exact year of manufacture.

These items can be displayed inside glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shadow boxes as wall art, or utilised thoughtfully on sideboards during formal dining occasions to add a layer of historic texture and sophistication.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfiber cloth to protect the delicate high-relief chasing. Store pieces in tarnish-resistant cloth or acid-free tissue within a controlled environment away from direct humidity.
