This is a Georgian, English, engraved facet-cut stem wine or ale glass dating from the end of the 18th century, c1770, and engraved in the atelier of James Giles.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a polished out pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 6 cm. (2.4 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved and polished with an OXO (egg and dart) border above the Giles'' signature engraving of bucrania and paterae within twisted laurel wreaths. The bowl sits on a diamond facet cut stem, the facets reaching up into the lower part of the bowl where they end as petal flutes. The stem leads to a conical foot which measures 6.8 cm.
