An antique silver trinket box is a small, portable container crafted from silver, often utilised historically for storing jewellery, pills, or snuff during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

These pieces are typically constructed from sterling silver or coin silver, frequently featuring decorative inlays such as agate, malachite, or carnelian, alongside hand-engraved surface patterns.

Authenticity is determined by examining hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the assay office, standard of silver, and date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Such decorative objects are often displayed on mantelpieces, bedside tables, or within glass cabinets to add metallic texture and historical interest to modern spaces.

Silver should be cleaned infrequently using a soft microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive materials that can wear down engravings and stone inlays.
