Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George I oak coffer dates from the early 18th century, a transitional period in English furniture design that moved away from heavy Jacobean ornamentation towards slightly more refined proportions while retaining robust construction.

These coffers are constructed primarily from solid English oak, utilising traditional frame-and-panel techniques with pegged joints, hand-carved friezes, and wrought iron strap hinges and locks.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails and wooden pegs, uniform natural oxidisation and wear patterns, hand-planed board surfaces, and historical tool marks consistent with 18th-century craftsmanship.

An antique oak coffer functions effectively as a grounding focal point in modern spaces, serving as a functional storage trunk at the end of a bed, a living room coffee table, or an entryway accent piece.

Preserve antique oak by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood without sealing the historic finish.
